Wood Pour Over FAQs

Q: What do I need to know before I buy a Wood Pour Over?
A: This device is a simple pour-over coffee filter made out of wood. It works similar to other pour-over filters except you season and develop it based on your preferences over time.

To use the Wood Pour Over, you will add 1oz. of coarsely ground coffee, pour over hot water (we suggest 12oz.) and stir a few times. 2-4 minutes later your cup of coffee is ready!
After you are done, you empty the grinds and rinse the bowl with warm water.

Q: I’m a devoted pour-over user, how similar is this going to be to the pour-over I already have?
A: It’s quite different. The Wood Pour Over has a metal filter instead of paper, it’s made out of wood instead of ceramic and it looks very different than any other pour-over you have ever seen! What it has in common with the standard pour-overs is that they all use gravity to filter hot water through coffee grounds.

Q: How should I select my first Wood Pour Over?
A:
Any of the standard editions, Walnut, Cherry and White Oak are perfect for starters. Read a bit more about each edition and pair them with your favorite beans and roasts. As an example, Cherry is best with light and medium roasts while we recommend dark roast beans with Walnut and Oak.

Q: How long does it take to brew a cup in the Wood Pour Over?
A: Brewing time should range from 2-4 minutes, but may be shorter or longer depending on how much coffee you add and your stirring technique during the brewing process. See below for more details on our recommended method of using the Wood Pour Over..

Q: I just got my Wood Pour Over, what should I know?
A:
All pieces are freshly oiled and finished before shipment, make sure you read the instructions in the box and follow the steps! Your Wood Pour Over is still adapting to its environment and will have a nutty, woody flavor which will be replaced with your coffee roast preferences in the next 2-3 weeks. Repeat the 6 step seasoning instructions every now and then during the first few weeks & stir regularly as you brew!

Q:Can I put my Wood Pour Over in the dishwasher?
A:
No.

Q: Can I put the filter in the dishwasher?
A:
You don’t need to take the filter out unless you really really want to wash it. We don’t suggest taking the filter out but if you need to, you can push it out from the bottom holes with a thin and long enough pin or wire. If you do take it out, then yes! The filter is made with high-grade stainless steel and will be perfectly okay in a dishwasher.

Q: How do I clean my Wood Pour Over after I make my cup of coffee?
A:
You can compost the used coffee grinds and rinse your Wood Pour Over with warm water. You don’t really need to use dish-soap to clean it, a simple rinse with warm water will ensure the bowl is clean. Use dish-soap if you think it is necessary. Over time, your Wood Pour Over will maintain itself as the natural oils from your preferred coffee beans build up after each use.

Q: What should I do if it’s taking longer than 4 minutes to filter through?
A:
Stir more often and adjust your grind settings. We suggest grinding your coffee coarser or stirring more during the brewing period. We suggest starting with coarse setting, something similar to french press and grinding finer one step at a time until you reach the optimum setting based on your preferences.

Q: Is the Wood Pour Over FDA approved?
A: Yes! All parts, finishes and materials used in the Wood Pour Over comply with Food and Drugs Act (FDA) and regulations. 100% natural materials are used in the production and finishing of the pieces.

Q: Anything people with allergies should know?
A: We do not recommend the Wood Pour Over for individuals with nut allergies or any other specific allergies as the wood is finished with natural pure oils that contains edible nut oils.

Q: Am I going to save the world if I start using the Wood Pour Over?
A: Yes, absolutely!  All Wood Pour Overs are made with certified wood by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). All pieces are made with the highest standards of environmental regulations under Food and Drugs Act (FDA). The Wood Pour Over is designed with reusable filters to reduce the waste of paper filters. All parts are natural, biodegradable and recyclable.
